My Brother the Devil Research

My Brother the Devil is a 2012 coming of age film based in East London and focuses on two Egyptian brothers caught between the norms and values of society and their culture. The film was written and directed by Sally El Hosaini who won Best Newcomer at the BFI London Film Festival. The film was produced by Wild Horses Film Company and Rocks Nest Entertainment. It was released on the 9th of November and only distributed by a small variety of cinemas such as the VUE (in Islington and Stratford), Cineworld and Genesis. It faces hard competition from Skyfall which is still popular as well as the new film in the Twilight franchise - Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Although the film didn't receive huge billboards and buses adverts, the film was able to get a small column in a magazine which was distributed at public transports - the magazine is called Sport and on its front cover the popular game Black Ops 2 was featured on it. This would mainly attract the "younger generation" as that is what they craze about!The column with the film was featured along side the game as they both involve "guns". The film also had a poster which could be seen outside cinemas as well on random walls on the streets of the UK. Including all the above the film had an intense and entertaining trailer which made it intriguing to watch and leaving the viewer feeling rather ambivalent about the film

The film starred James Floyd who plays Rashid the charismatic and shrewd member of a local gang who seeks to give his brother a different life - Mo who is played by Fady Elsayed. Both actors were nominted for an award at the BFI London Film Festival however only James was able to win an award for Best Actor whilst Fady was only nominated for Best Newcomer.

Skyfall Research

Skyfall is 23rd film in the James Bond series and the third film which Daniel Craig stars in. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and was written by John LoganNeal Purvis and Robert Wade. Skyfall was produced by Eod Productions and was distributed by MGM and Song Pictures Entertainment. The film had a budget of $150 million and has since made $96,600,000 as of the 31st of October. It was said on the 2nd November that Skyfall set a record for the highest seven-day UK gross of all time with £37.2 million replacing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (£35.7M).

The film was advertised in many ways such as through huge billboards and the sides of buses. The billboards were put up before the release of the film which is the the 26th of October in the UK, putting them up before the release would give the public a chance to research the film a bit more and be aware of Skyfall. The film also had a trailer which aired on channels such as Film4 and other popular channels. The trailer was also available on the internet which could be seen through YouTube and the Skyfall website. The trailer had clips and scenes from the films which would give the public an ideas of what the film is all about and who stars in it. This is the trailer for Skyfall and almost reached 11 million views on YouTube:

During the premier on the 23rd of October which was located in London at the Royal Albert Hall, the stars of Skyfall were interview including Daniel Craig who say hes "incredibly proud" of playing Bond on the 50th anniversary since  Dr.No in 1962 as well as Dame Judi Dench who claims to be "treated fairly well" when on the set of Skyfall and also says that Daniel Craig is "dedicated", "professional" and "totally James Bond". In October it was announced that Skyfall managed to get Adele to write and sing a song which was recorded with her regular songwriter Paul Epworth. The song was released ahead of the release date of the film and was able to buy on iTunes on the 5th Ocotber at 0:07 which is dubbed as "James Bond Day" by the producers as it marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series. The song reached number 1 on the UK iTunes online store less than 10 hours of release. Having Adele sing the song brought even more attention to Skyfall as most people know Adele as the multi grammy winning and aritst of the year and so much more. Also the single which reached number two on the UK single chart would bring in more money for the film as Adele's creditably would generate more sales on the single. This is the Skyfall soundtrack which has almost gained 50 million views on YouTube;

The movie has its own Twitter and Facebook page which contains information of the film as well as the public opinions on the film. Some users posted positive whereas some weren't so positive. Although the sites are popular with the youth some older people would have access to the pages and accounts so they can gain some information on the film. The film also has its own website (Skyfall Website) which has some music playing in the background as well as the trailer on the homepage. This would allow people without Facebook and Twitter to have access to information regarding the film such as how to buy the Adele soundtrack or when the film is released.
